Our client is a well-established and respected civil contractor based in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, known for delivering complex infrastructure projects across NSW. As they continue to expand, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a hands-on and operational HR Manager to join the leadership team.
About the Role
This is a broad generalist role for an experienced HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. Reporting directly to the executive team, you will be responsible for the end-to-end HR function across the business, supporting both site-based and office teams.
You'll oversee one direct report and manage the relationship with an outsourced payroll provider, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end recruitment and selection across a variety of roles (blue & white collar)
- Provide expert advice and support across all areas of HR operations
- Develop, review, and manage employment contracts, policies, and procedures
- Interpret modern awards and enterprise agreements (EBA exposure essential)
- Support or lead EBA negotiation processes in collaboration with legal and IR advisors
- Guide and coach managers through employee relations issues and performance management
- Support workforce planning and talent development strategies
- Oversee the outsourced payroll function, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Mentor and develop your direct report (HR Advisor)
About You
You are a confident and experienced HR professional who enjoys working in a hands-on, operational environment. You understand the nuances of civil construction and can adapt quickly to support both site-based and head office teams.
To be successful, you will have:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a generalist HR role (ideally in construction, civil, infrastructure, or similar industries)
- Strong experience in end-to-end recruitment and talent acquisition
- Sound understanding of award interpretation and EBA processes
- Previous experience handling employee relations, contracts, and compliance
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently
- Familiarity with outsourced payroll functions and payroll compliance
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Tertiary qualifications in HR, Business, or related field (preferred)
