About the Role
As the organisation’s dedicated HR and Performance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in professionalising HR and performance processes and driving a high-performance workplace culture. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will partner closely with senior leadership to further build on existing HR frameworks, constructing and implementing Training Plans for new starters, identifying & formalising performance metrics, and executing on the immediate growth strategy of our team.
This role requires both strategic thinking and hands-on execution, covering key areas such as HR policy development, workforce planning, payroll management, performance management, and maintaing a positive staff culture. You will have the opportunity to implement best practice HR and performance processes.
Key Responsibilities
HR Process Development & Implementation – Establish and embed HR policies, frameworks, and best practices.
Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, and career progression.
Construct and implement ongoing monitoring, training and supervision of staff including management of Training Plan's for all new starters in line with AFSL licence obligations.
Workforce Planning & Resource Management – Support resource planning for project-based work.
Staff Relations – Manage grievances, underperformance, and termination processes.
Culture & Employer Branding – Enhance staff engagement and drive a collaborative, high-performance work environment.
People leadership through effective talent acquisition, staff retention, performance management, staff engagement and continuous learning and development.
Support the senior leadership team, participating on relevant Committees, contributing towards the risk management mitigation framework.
Remuneration and rewards framework and policies to attract and retain top talent as well as build out capabilities.
Succession planning and talent attraction strategies including workforce planning and succession development.
Learning and development strategy through understanding the growth objectives and capabilities needed by the organisation to reach targets.
Shaping culture through development and implementation of strategies which are inclusive and collaborative with high levels of staff engagement.
Implement performance management programs, including goal setting and performance reviews.
Ensure HR policies and practices align with financial regulations, including those set by ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) and other relevant regulatory bodies governing the financial services industry in Australia.
Work with legal and compliance teams to maintain proper documentation for background checks, licensing, and certifications.
Manage employee conduct and ethics training, particularly regarding insider trading and confidentiality.
Manage benefits programs and ensure alignment with industry best practices.
Develop specialised training programs for traders, analysts, and operational staff.
Manage HR systems and ensure accurate reporting of workforce analytics.
Utilise HR metrics to drive insights on turnover, engagement, and performance trends.
Oversee payroll, contract negotiations, and vendor management for HR services.
About You
The ideal candidate will have experience as a standalone HR practitioner in a small organisation, ideally within a capital markets/trading organisation. Additionally, you demonstrate the agility to operate in a project- delivery environment. You will be strategic yet hands-on, able to establish HR frameworks and manage day-to-day HR operations. With the ability to influence senior leadership, you will understand the balance of embedding best-practice HR whilst honouring and enhancing existing company culture.
Previous Experience and Skills
Proven successful track record of building and leading a high-performance People and Culture function ideally in financial services.
Relevant Human Resources qualifications.
Experience in dealing with, supporting executives and senior leaders.
Resilience, change management within fast paced environments.
