The Australian BioResources Facility, owned and operated by the Garvan, breeds high-quality laboratory mice for Garvan’s medical research programmes. This facility, based in Moss Vale in the Southern Highlands, uses advanced technology to provide an optimal environment for the production of high-quality animals for medical research.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The primary function of the Engineering Assistant position is to carry out weekly tasks as directed by the Building Manager. These tasks will be of a general nature and require a small degree of technical ability. The engineering assistant will be able to work with the Building Manager or separately as directed. They might also be required to deliver mice and to liaise with contractors.
Salary: Up to $70,000 + 12% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)
Employment Type: Permanent full-time

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The key responsibilities include:
Carry out minor repairs as directed by the Building Manager
Assist in the maintenance of the caging systems
Deal with contractors on site
Participate in the On Call roster for out of hours call outs
Pack/ manifest and deliver mice as required
Be available to participate in periodic rostered work for weekends or Public Holidays
Ability to make decisions with regard to equipment maintenance and repair, and handling contractors and responses on site
ABOUT YOU
The key skills and experience include:
No qualifications are required for this position but trade or trades-assistant experience would be ideal. Onsite training is provided.
General understanding of the working environment within a clean room facility is not essential, but would be desirable
Possess a strong commitment to animal welfare and care
Strong team focus and commitment to quality
Good communication skills
Reliability, patience and must be trustworthy
The ability to work individually or as a member of a group
A professional approach
Must have a good level of fitness
Must not have any prior medical conditions that may be exacerbated by lifting or by general manual labour
Must have a current NSW driving licence
Good attention to detail
Strong organisational skills
