About the role
The Commodity Trading Manager will lead and manage the Commodity Trading Division, setting clear trading strategies, ensuring compliance with risk and legal frameworks, and delivering measurable commercial outcomes.
This senior leadership position is responsible for overseeing all trading activities, market analysis, procurement strategies, and the performance of Riverina’s Katrina Street Export Packing Facility. The role carries authority over trading contracts, position limits, and budget spend in accordance with company policies.
As part of the leadership team, the successful candidate will align trading and purchasing activities with broader business goals, drive sustainability and ESG considerations, and foster strong relationships with growers, suppliers, and consumers.
Your key responsibilities:
- Direct and manage commodity trading activities in line with company directives, legal frameworks, and industry regulations (GTA, AGEC, GAFTA, IGC).
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Commodity Trading team, driving collaboration with the Procurement team to optimise commodity purchase prices.
- Oversee the management and performance of the Katrina Street Export Packing Facility, ensuring efficient operations, compliance, and alignment with trading and logistics strategies.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of cash and futures markets to identify viable trading opportunities and develop informed trading strategies.
- Manage counterparty risk in line with the company’s risk management and credit policies.
- Actively develop new market opportunities, leveraging market intelligence and global industry trends.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and customers, negotiating favourable trading terms.
- Collaborate with Operations to ensure seamless execution of trades and logistics.
Our Ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in agricultural commodity trading with a proven track record in managing trading operations and developing successful strategies.
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field.
- Proven experience in operations management for export packing facilities will be highly regarded.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a team while driving accountability and performance.
- Experience in risk management, compliance, and managing counterparty exposure.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with commercial acumen and the ability to deliver on P&L and budget outcomes.
- Proficiency in trading and market analysis tools, with excellent financial modelling and analytical capability.
