About the Role
As the Payroll Governance Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and ongoing management of payroll governance frameworks. You will ensure compliance with legislation, maintain data integrity, and work closely with internal stakeholders to identify risk, enhance processes, and ensure payroll operations are accurate, efficient, and audit-ready.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement payroll governance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Monitor payroll compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and internal standards.
- Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify control gaps and areas for improvement.
- Stay informed on legislative and regulatory changes impacting payroll.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, Legal, and IT to resolve issues and drive process alignment.
- Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance payroll accuracy and efficiency.
- Support payroll system upgrades and implementation projects in collaboration with IT.
- Provide governance training and guidance to payroll and HR teams.
- Prepare reports and compliance documentation for internal and external audits.
Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in payroll operations and compliance in a complex or multi-site environment.
- Strong knowledge of employment tax laws, payroll legislation, and regulatory frameworks.
- Proven experience in process improvement, risk management, or governance in payroll or HR.
- Familiarity with payroll systems and involvement in system implementations or upgrades.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical teams.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Business, or similar.
