The Department of Health manages the Northern Territory public health system, operating as one system across 5 regions, providing the full spectrum of essential, quality health services, from health promotion to prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care across the life course.
Located in Darwin, the Top End Mental Health and Other Drugs Team provides specialist mental health services to clients and their families across the Northern Region of Australia, including case management, assessments and therapeutic interventions.
As a Senior Specialist Mental Health Worker, your primary objective is to provide triage, practical advice, assessment, short term management and referral for Northern Territory mental health clients and their families in accordance mental health legislation and Top End Mental Health Services policies and procedures.
Working collaboratively with mental health professionals you will support the development of contemporary models of care and contribute to Continuous Quality Improvement programs.
To be successful you require a recognised degree in Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Social Work with eligibility for practicing membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, demonstrated experience working with mental health clients with complex needs and sound knowledge of mental illness/disorders and contemporary approaches to mental health care.
In addition, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, family and community structures, with the ability to communicate and work effectively in a culturally safe manner.
