About the role

Council is seeking an experienced Strategic Recreation Planner to join our Urban and Heritage Planning Team.

This is a great opportunity to shape the future of open space, leisure, and recreation across one of Sydney’s most beautiful and environmentally significant local government areas.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Progressively review Plans of Management for community land in consultation with Crown Lands
  • Deliver key actions from the Ku-ring-gai Recreation Needs Study
  • Work closely with internal teams, consultants, and community stakeholders to deliver strategic plans, policies and recreation infrastructure
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities to enhance local sport, leisure and open space facilities
  • Provide briefings and reports to senior executives and elected representatives
  • Support delivery of the Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) through targeted recreation strategies and initiatives

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Recreation Planning or a related field
  • A current NSW Class C Driver’s Licence
  • 10+ years relevant professional experience
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. NSW Local Government Act, Crown Lands Act, Environmental Planning & Assessment Act)
  • Demonstrated experience preparing recreation studies, strategies, and Plans of Management
  • Knowledge of contemporary recreation trends and frameworks for open space planning
  • Exceptional written communication, including report writing and policy development
  • Effective in community consultation, conflict resolution, and negotiation
  • Proven track record of securing external grants and funding
