Your Role – What You’ll Be Doing
At Level 3, you’ll be trusted with the work that requires depth, independence, and accountability. Each day you will:

• Lead complex fault finding and diagnostics across diesel, hydraulic, pneumatic, and flameproof systems, often working without supervision.
• Overhaul and rebuild major components such as engines, transmissions, braking systems, and flameproof machinery, meeting strict compliance and certification standards.
• Plan and scope repairs, including assessing job requirements, ordering parts, allocating time, and delivering to deadlines with minimal rework.
• Own problems from start to finish, adapting when unexpected issues arise and ensuring equipment is returned to service safely and reliably.
• Document and report at a high level, including root cause analysis, compliance paperwork, and detailed service records for both internal and regulatory requirements.
• Mentor and guide apprentices and Level 1–2 trades, sharing advanced skills, correcting unsafe practices, and modelling high standards.
• Engage with supervisors, engineers, and clients to explain technical issues, recommend improvements, and provide input into preventative maintenance strategies.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting better methods, safer work practices, and reliability-focused maintenance plans.

What We’re Looking For

• Certificate III in Mechanical Trade (Diesel Fitter / Diesel Mechanic) or equivalent.
• Appointment as a Competent Person (Diesel) under RII DES standards.
• 2+ years’ experience with flameproof underground machinery or 5+ years in heavy industry (mining, shipbuilding, aerospace, oil & gas).
• Advanced troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Strong ability to plan, execute, and deliver high-quality work independently.
• Clear communication and record-keeping skills.
