About the Role
The Development Services Branch enables sustainable development for the community on the Sunshine Coast by working with industry stakeholders to achieve timely, customer focused development assessment services, advice and advocacy in the areas of planning, engineering, environment, landscape, building, plumbing and legislative compliance.
The Development Compliance Officer will work as part of a highly effective and motivated multi-disciplinary team to provide sound development compliance services and advice to stakeholders to contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the health, safety and amenity of the region in line with statutory requirements relating to land use, development and buildings.
Primarily you will:
· Respond to, investigate and seek to resolve complaints relating to land use and the built environment to ensure compliance with the relevant Acts and Regulations and undertake enforcement procedures for non-compliance in a timely manner, meeting statutory timeframes where applicable.
· Review development applications to ensure their compliance with approval conditions and statutory requirements.
· Provide advice and technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to development and building compliance.
· Contribute to reports to Council, and prepare correspondence, briefing notes, advisory, show cause and enforcement notices on development compliance and enforcement matters.
· Exercise initiative and a degree of autonomy in making decisions, solving problems and resolving conflicts in relation to compliance and delegated applications.
This position has recently relocated to Sunshine Coast City Hall, based in the heart of Maroochydore CBD. This state of the art and sustainable building is designed to achieve an innovative and collaborative workspace.
About you
As a requirement of this role, you will have a strong understanding of statutory compliance, development approvals and enforcement procedures with demonstrated ability to apply legislation, policies, standards and regulations relevant to the area of work.
You will have strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills to work effectively with stakeholders.
Be eligible for appointment as an authorised person in accordance with Council’s functions.
Hold a valid Class ‘C’ unrestricted Drivers licence.
Possession of a Certificate qualification in local government planning or government investigations, or demonstrated experience would be desirable.

Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
