About Research Ethics and Clinical Trials Team:

The Research Ethics & Clinical Trials Office manages the interface between Ethics Committees, researchers and state, federal and international regulatory bodies, ensuring QIMR Berghofer’s ethical systems and processes are effective and support researchers.

Role Purpose / Responsibilities:

The Research Ethics Project Officer plays a critical role in supporting the effective management of research ethics and compliance functions. The role provides project management and operational support for the transition from the legacy eForms ethics submission system to the new IQ Integrity – Research Approval and Compliance System (RACs) platform, encompassing both human and animal research ethics workflows. The role ensures the transition is efficient, aligns with QIMR Berghofer’s governance frameworks, and meets all ethical, legal, and institutional requirements.

Working closely with the IT Project Management Office, the Ethics and Regulatory Affairs Manager, ethics team, safety team, and researchers, the role supports system configuration, workflow optimisation, policy alignment, and training. The position also provides operational assistance with human and animal research ethics processes as required. While technical IT expertise is not required, the role demands a strong understanding of ethics processes to effectively guide business analysts in mapping system requirements.

The position is responsible for:

• Supporting effective project management across the implementation, development, and ongoing use of the IQ Integrity- Research Approvals and Compliance System.
• Providing effective management, administration, and compliance oversight of research ethics processes, with a focus on activities relating to research involving human participants and animal research.
• Delivering high-level secretariat support to the Human Research Ethics Committee, Animal Ethics Committee, and associated sub-committees.

The Research Ethics Project Officer reports to the Manager Research Ethics & Regulatory Affairs and is a member of the Research Governance and Funding group.

About you:

We're seeking a highly organised individual with:

• Demonstrated project management expertise either through practical experience and/or formal project management qualifications.
• Demonstrated experience in advising on and supporting human and/or animal ethics applications, including navigating the ethics approval process and providing clear, practical guidance to researchers and ethics committees.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence, build strong relationships, and drive change by creating stakeholder buy-in through clear, persuasive written and verbal communication.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement with experience identifying opportunities to enhance systems, processes or stakeholder engagement.
• Superior attention to detail.

Remuneration: Salary range is $106,376 to $115,730 p.a. plus super and salary packaging. This is a full-time 1-year-fixed- term appointment.
