Specialised Alternative Learning Program
The SALP Teacher plays a vital role in engaging disengaged young people aged 10–13 through alternative education approaches that are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based. This position works closely with the SALP Manager, Case Workers, and Youth Workers to design, implement, and deliver creative learning programs both onsite and offsite. The Teacher will foster re-engagement in learning, build life skills, and support personal development while collaborating with external stakeholders, schools, and families.
About the Role
Position is 30 hours a week. Monday-Friday.
Develop and deliver alternative learning materials and activities tailored to the needs of disengaged young people.
Collaborate with the SALP Manager to design curriculum aligned with program objectives and cultural values.
Support Case Workers and Youth Workers in integrating education with wellbeing and case management plans.
Facilitate hands-on, interest-based learning experiences to re-engage students in education.
Promote youth voice, participation, and leadership in their own learning journey.
Strengthen connections with schools, education providers, and community stakeholders to improve learning pathways.
Desirable skills and experience
SC 1 Qualifications in Education or equivalent teaching qualification. Current QLD Teacher Registration.
SC 2 Demonstrable knowledge and skills gained through qualifications and/or previous experience in a similar role involving ability to design and deliver creative, flexible curriculum tailored to individual learning needs.
SC 3 Strong organisational and time-management skills to effectively plan and coordinate program activities.
SC 4 Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with extensive experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and building and promoting local networks and relationships with relevant service providers.
SC 5 Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and culturally responsive education, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
SC 6 Proficiency in data collection and reporting to track individual learning outcomes.
SC 7 Current Queensland Class C Drivers Licence, Satisfactory National Police Clearance, and current positive Working with Children Blue Card.
