Our Next Biosecurity Officer (Weeds)
The Role
As a Biosecurity Officer in Weeds, you will be helping Gunnedah Shire Council effectively undertake weed management across the shire.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out the functions of an Authorised Biosecurity Officer as defined under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015.
- Assisting Council’s Senior Biosecurity Officer to deliver effective State and Priority weed management on behalf of Gunnedah Shire Council.
- Undertaking priority weeds inspections on public and private land within the Gunnedah Shire.
- Carrying out efficient, effective weed control on roads, reserves and infrastructure within the Gunnedah Shire.
- Ensuring public and private landholders demonstrate compliance in line with relevant Acts, Regulations and community expectations.
- Providing professional technical advice to public and private land managers within Gunnedah Shire Council
- Effectively communicating with other government agencies and representative bodies as required.
- Formulating and delivering high quality public awareness and education programmes targeting State and Regional priority weeds.
- Maintaining a sound knowledge of Council’s weeds inspection and reporting systems and NSW DPI Biosecurity Information Systems (BIS).
- Undertaking all appropriate training and accreditation in line with industry standards and Local, State and Federal Government legal requirements.
- Participating in Regional Weeds Officers & State Regional Weed Advisory Committee Meetings as required.
- Providing quality administrative support as required.
Key Requirements
- Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management (Weeds) OR Demonstrated Experience
- AQF3 ChemCert Certificate
- Stage 1 Legal Training for Biosecurity Officers
- Demonstrated skills and knowledge in use of Microsoft Office applications
- Current valid NSW Class C Drivers Licence (ongoing employment is conditional on maintaining this Licence)
While not required, desirable characteristics of a successful candidate could include:
- Experience in Local Government.
- AQF4 ChemCert Certificate
