About the Role:
Reitsma Constructions, a leading commercial builder with a reputation built over fifty years, is seeking an exceptional and strategically-minded Chief Financial Officer to join our dynamic leadership team. This is a pivotal role for an experienced financial executive, reporting to the Directors and acting as a key business partner, you will be guiding the financial strategy and governance of our business. You will manage our finance team, being a total of five team members.
We are a financially strong and successful business with a well-earned reputation that is known within the education, community and commercial sections of the construction industry in NSW. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader who can blend rigorous financial stewardship with proactive leadership, shaping business decisions and ensuring long-term success. We would also consider a Financial Controller looking to take the next step into a CFO role.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Planning: Develop and execute financial strategies that align with and support the company’s objectives. Lead comprehensive financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for a portfolio of projects valued up to $25M. Provide strategic guidance and analytical support to the leadership team to maximize profitability and identify new opportunities.
Financial Management and Oversight: Take responsibility for all financial operations, including the management of company treasury, the allocation and management of cash facilities, and the management of company security facilities (Bank Guarantee and Surety Bond facility). Oversee all insurance policies and coverage across the business, as well as managing arrangements for company properties and leases. Lead and manage the entire finance and accounting team, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting, and adherence to all statutory and regulatory requirements. Provide timely and accurate information to stakeholders and be an expert in all aspects of financials, tax, and corporate administration.
Monthly Reporting: Prepare and present monthly reports to the Directors outlining revenue, profit, secured revenue, cash flow, management accounts, and profit and loss statements.
Governance and Financial Assessment Reporting: Provide advice on the overall financial governance of the business, strengthening the framework to support the company’s increasing scale and complexity. Take the lead in coordinating and managing the audit process, including lodgment with ASIC, and overseeing all statutory tax lodgments and payments across the business. In addition, respond to financial check RFIs and provide submissions to insurance and banks for mandatory submission milestones.
Operational Partnership and Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with the estimating and project delivery teams to provide project finance information, optimize resource allocation, and ensure contract compliance. Your role will be to provide a comprehensive, cross-functional financial perspective to support our operational teams in delivering successful project outcomes.
Required Qualifications and Attributes:
Education and Certifications: A Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification is essential. A tertiary qualification in accounting or a business-related subject is required.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of financial management experience, with a proven track record as a CFO or in a senior financial controlling role. A strong background in the Australian construction industry is favorable, with a demonstrated ability to manage the financial complexities of large-scale, project-based work.
Software Proficiency:
Proficiency with Premier Construction Software, Premier Payroll, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace is preferred, but not required.
Personal Attributes: The successful candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, a proactive and problem-solving mindset, and the highest level of personal integrity. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization, are critical.
