About the Opportunity
The Community Support Officer directly reports to the Community Health Programs Manager and is accountable to the Community Health Programs Manager, and is responsible for supporting of social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) programs and services throughout the funded service catchment at Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS). As a member of the SEWB team, the position incumbent works with individuals and families to implement and evaluate wellbeing initiatives with the aim of enhancing individual and community resilience. The position advances principles of self-determination, equity and access alongside funded PAMS programs including: Tackling Indigenous Smoking, Environmental Health, Patient Assisted Transport and Disability Support (NDIS).
About You
To be considered for this position, candidates must be able to clearly demonstrate their ability to meet the below Essential Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated client-focused approach in service provision with genuine understanding of factors affecting the social and emotional well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within our communities;
Communicate, consult and liaise with relevant professionals, clients, staff and community members to achieve identified organisational objectives and goals;
Demonstrated understanding of the unique issues effecting and impacting upon the health of Aboriginal children and families;
Sound written and verbal communication skills with Aboriginal people and stakeholders;
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team to achieve agreed goals and deadlines;
An ability to work, reside and travel independently in a remote region;
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as independently when required; and
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
In addition to the above, the desirable criteria are:
The person identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is acknowledged as such by their community;
Experience in a Social & Emotional Wellbeing environment directing and delivering services; and
Understanding of the principles of primary health care and the model of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service.

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with remote Aboriginal communities and make a drastic impact to the health and well-being outcomes of these communities.
PAMS operates five sites, supported by a range of clinicians, community health workers and other ancillary workers. Although the successful candidates will have a substantive location (Newman) they must be prepared from time to time to work across any one of these sites should they be required.
PAMS operates in some of the most remote parts of Australia and staff are required to be proficient at driving a 4WD vehicle and willing to fly in light aircraft.
