Venue Manager – Ellora St Kilda
About the Role
Ellora is seeking an experienced, proactive, and customer-focused Venue Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our newly renovated, multi-level venue in the heart of St Kilda. This is a pivotal leadership position, suited to an individual who thrives in dynamic, service-led environments and is passionate about hospitality at every level — from cocktails and à la carte service to large-scale functions and events.
While Ellora is a high-volume, multi-faceted venue, it remains independently owned and actively operated by a hands-on leadership team. You will work closely with the Owner and dedicated Events & Functions Manager to ensure seamless operations across trade and private bookings. This is a collaborative, fast-moving environment where initiative, consistency, teamwork and clear communication are key.
Ellora has undergone a substantial transformation and is now regarded as one of the area’s most prominent venues. With a rapidly growing food offering, a high-volume cocktail bar, and an active calendar of private events, the role requires a confident, solutions-oriented operator with a strong floor presence and a commitment to service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily venue operations, ensuring high standards of service and presentation
Collaborate with the Owner and Events/Functions Manager on bookings, service delivery, and staffing
Lead, train, and support the front-of-house, bar, and events teams
Coordinate with clients, suppliers, performers, and contractors for events and functions
Manage scheduling, rostering, and wage control in line with financial targets
Maintain venue cleanliness, safety, and readiness at all times
Monitor and manage stock levels, ordering, and inventory control
Uphold compliance with RSA, health and safety, and licensing regulations
Respond to guest feedback professionally and proactively
Support marketing and promotional initiatives to drive bookings and visibility
Assist with booking calendars and function logistics from enquiry to execution
About You
Minimum 3 years’ experience in venue, bar, or event management roles
Confident managing a fast-paced, high-volume environment with diverse service styles
Strong leadership and team management capabilities
Financial acumen including COGS, wage control, budgeting, and reporting
High-level communication and customer service skills
Proficient in POS, booking systems, and venue management platforms
Well-organised with excellent time management and attention to detail
Able to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required
Valid RSA (First Aid and other relevant certifications desirable)
