Stonefish Careers is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing construction business for an experienced Commercial Accountant. This role is a key appointment, supporting financial operations across the business while partnering with senior management, project teams and external stakeholders.

About the Role

As a Commercial Accountant, you’ll take ownership of day-to-day finance and reporting functions in a fast-paced project environment. You will work closely with senior management, project teams and the external accountant to deliver accurate financial outcomes that support growth, compliance and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Manage AP, AR, payroll and general ledger functions with accuracy and timeliness

Prepare and issue invoices, progress claims and reconciliations

Handle payroll, payroll tax, superannuation and employee reimbursements

Prepare and lodge BAS/IAS and support EOFY processes with the external accountant

Provide reporting for budgets, forecasts and project costings

Follow up overdue accounts and manage payment arrangements

Deliver administration and reporting support across construction projects

Liaise confidently with project managers, clients, suppliers and external stakeholders

What You’ll Need

Qualification in Accounting or Bookkeeping

Proven accounting experience in a project-based or construction environment

Proficiency in Xero (essential)

SimPRO experience highly desirable

Familiarity with Dext, Excel and accounting file management systems

Solid understanding of ATO requirements (GST, BAS, payroll, super)

Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a busy environment

Strong communication, organisational skills and attention to detail

A collaborative style with confidence to engage external accountants and stakeholders
