Sustainable Agriculture Project Officer
Location: Geraldton, WA (Northern Agricultural Region)
Employment: 0.6 – 1.0 FTE, Permanent
Salary Range: $74,120 – $90,657 + super (pro rata, based on skills and experience)
Reports to: Sustainable Agriculture Program Coordinator
NACC NRM is seeking a motivated and community-focused Sustainable Agriculture Project Officer to join our team in Geraldton. In this role, you will support the development and delivery of innovative projects that help farmers and land managers adopt more sustainable practices.
Working closely with growers, Landcare groups, industry bodies, and government agencies, you will help build capacity, foster collaboration, and drive practical solutions for the region’s agricultural challenges. This role combines project delivery with on-the-ground engagement — from running workshops and farm demonstrations to supporting grant applications and community initiatives.
As part of NACC NRM’s Sustainable Agriculture team, you will play a key role in helping land managers investigate, understand, and adopt land management practices that build resilience, protect natural resources, and contribute to a thriving agricultural future.
The position is based in Geraldton but will require travel across the Northern Agricultural Region.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and deliver projects under the Sustainable Agriculture Program, ensuring activities align with NACC NRM’s goals and NARvis (the regional NRM strategy).
Support the design and facilitation of community activities, including workshops, farm trials, field days, and peer learning opportunities.
Develop and maintain strong networks with farmers, grower groups, Landcare, and local community organisations to promote sustainable practices.
Act as a central contact point for farmers and groups seeking information, funding opportunities, and support in sustainable land management.
Provide feedback and reporting on issues affecting the agricultural community, including drought and natural disaster impacts.
Assist community groups to develop projects, secure funding (e.g. Future Drought Fund opportunities), and build capacity.
Support the delivery of NACC NRM’s Community Engagement Plan.
Prepare reports, budgets, communications, and evaluation documentation for projects.
Work with the Sustainable Agriculture Program Coordinator to develop new funding proposals and partnerships.
Uphold NACC NRM’s organisational values, Purpose, Way, and Impact in all activities.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
Tertiary qualification in agriculture, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field and/or relevant experience.
Proven project management experience (experience in sustainable agriculture projects highly regarded).
Commitment to sustainability, natural resource management, and the mission of NACC NRM.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with farmers, community groups, industry, and government stakeholders.
Excellent written skills, including report writing and documentation.
Demonstrated ability to manage time, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
Strong negotiation, liaison, and presentation skills.
Current C Class driver’s licence.
Desirable
Experience using GIS.
Experience operating a 4WD vehicle.
