About the role
Scotch Oakburn College is seeking a high-calibre Head of Science to join our ambitious and forward-thinking school community. As Head of Science, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the Science department and driving educational excellence across all areas of the curriculum. This is a full-time, permanent teaching position with 3 year tenure on the Higher Duties aspect of the role. The position is based in our Middle and Senior campus in Launceston, Tasmania.
What you'll be doing
Lead, manage and develop the Science department to ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning outcomes
Oversee the Science curriculum, ensuring it aligns with the school's strategic objectives and national standards
Support, mentor and motivate the Science teaching team to foster a culture of continuous improvement
Analyse student performance data to identify areas for development and implement effective intervention strategies
Collaborate with the wider school community to enhance the profile and engagement of Science across the College
Manage the Science department budget and resources to optimise teaching and learning
Actively participate in the College's leadership team and contribute to whole-school initiatives
What we're looking for
Extensive experience in teaching Science at the secondary level, with a proven track record of driving excellent student outcomes
Minimum 3-5 years of secondary science teaching experience required
Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams
Minimum 1-2 years of leadership or management experience in education required
Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, assessment and evaluation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents and stakeholders
A passion for Science and a commitment to fostering curiosity, critical thinking and a love of learning in students
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Science, Education or a related field
Bachelor's degree with Education qualification required
Current registration as a teacher in Tasmania or the ability to obtain registration
Current Tasmanian teacher registration must be held at the time of application
