Senior Payroll Officer - Corporate Services

Location: Stuart Park, NT
Type: Full-time, Permanent, Office-based
Reports to: Head of Corporate Services
Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 p.a. + superannuation (commensurate with skills and experience)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Officer to join our Corporate Services Division. Our team delivers outsourced finance and payroll functions for Indigenous corporations and community organisations, acting as an extension of their workforce.

In this role, you will take responsibility for the end-to-end preparation of payroll across multiple clients, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. You will liaise with consultants in reviewing complex matters and provide guidance to junior staff involved in payroll processing.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys the technical side of payroll while also building client relationships and supporting continuous improvement of payroll processes.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Processing

Prepare, process, and reconcile payroll for multiple Corporate Services clients.

Ensure compliance with Fair Work, enterprise agreements, awards, ATO, STP, and superannuation requirements.

Maintain payroll records including employee master data, leave balances, deductions, and entitlements.

Process terminations, redundancies, back pay, allowances, and adjustments.

Review & Compliance

Prepare & review payroll calculations prepared by support staff; identify and resolve discrepancies.

Support lodgement of Single Touch Payroll (STP) submissions, superannuation, and payroll tax obligations.

Assist with year-end payroll processing including PAYG summaries, reconciliations, EOY finalisation and reporting.

Stay updated with changes in payroll legislation, awards, and workplace agreements.

Client Support & Communication

Respond to payroll queries from clients and employees in a timely and professional manner.

Provide guidance to clients on entitlements, leave, and payroll compliance.

Prepare payroll reports for client boards, management, and auditors as required.

Team Support

Mentor and support staff assisting with payroll.

Work closely with the Head of Corporate Services to streamline processes and improve accuracy.

Contribute to development of payroll Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Skills & Qualifications

4+ years’ payroll experience, including end-to-end processing.

Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, Fair Work, superannuation, and taxation obligations.

Experience using Employment Hero (highly regarded); Xero, MYOB, or similar systems also valued.

Experience with payroll for Indigenous corporations or not-for-profits (preferred, but not essential).

Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication skills with the ability to explain payroll concepts to clients.

Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and handle multiple client payrolls.

Employee Benefits

We are committed to supporting our team with benefits that promote work–life balance, wellbeing, and career growth:

Access up to 10 RDOs per year – with flexibility to choose between taking a day off or receiving a $200 bonus + super in lieu of the RDO.

Access up to $1,500 Professional Development allowance per year (after 12 months’ service.)

Ongoing mentoring and support for CA/CPA pathways.

Modern office with free parking.

Opportunities to build your career while working with clients making a real Community impact.
