Senior Officer, Environment Policy and Standards

$102,272 - $122,118 + 15.4% super

Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney and Coffs Harbour preferred; other AMSA locations will be considered

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Officer in Environment Policy and Standards will support domestic and international efforts to protect the environment from the impacts of shipping. This includes work on air pollution, sewage, garbage and marine plastic litter from ships, decarbonisation of shipping and liability and cost recovery arrangements for marine spills.

The Senior Officer will make policy recommendations on international environment protection issues, assist in the development of related policies and regulations and support implementation in Australia. Working collaboratively with stakeholders, the Senior Officer will use their communication and analytical skills to inform Australia’s position at International Maritime Organization (IMO) meetings, educate stakeholders on domestic and international policies and regulations, and identify emerging environmental issues

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

To be successful in this position, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and/or administer policy, regulation and/or legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and deliver results to a high standard in a timely manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake research and analysis and prepare briefings on complex issues for high level meetings.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent work experience.
