Senior Quality Engineer / QA (API and Backend)

Our client, an ASX listed, global client, delivering large technology programmes of work in Sydney requires an experienced QE to join a major transformative programme of work.

About the role
Join a mature platform squad as a Quality Engineer to uplift reliability, scalability, and efficiency of back-end APIs. You'll partner with engineers and product to embed automation, shift-left practices, and CI/CD testing for high-quality releases across REST and GraphQL services.

Duties/Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain API automation frameworks for REST and GraphQL
• Embed continuous testing within CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions)
• Define and drive test strategies; validate API contracts and integrations
• Lead root cause analysis and advocate best practice in API quality
• Coordinate testing across services and teams for smooth releases

Skills and experience

• 5-8+ years in software testing with strong API automation focus
• Proficient with RestAssured, Postman, or Karate; strong Java or Kotlin
• CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions, Jenkins); Agile/Scrum collaboration
• Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes); logging/monitoring (Splunk, Datadog)
• Cloud experience (AWS, GCP); contract testing (Pact) and security testing a plus
• Knowledge of Kafka/RabbitMQ; domain exposure in aviation/travel/e-commerce valued
