About the Position
We are looking to welcome a Team Leader to be responsible for the oversight of the general day-to day operations of the Kowanyama Safe House and ensure it is a physically and emotionally safe place for children to reside.
- Level 5 under the SCHACDS Award. Salary range is $100,784 - $105,350 + Superannuation.
- Full Time opportunity.
- Government funded until 31 December 2026 with possible extension.
- Monday to Friday position with expectation of occasional weekend, evenings and sleepovers as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach and develop a team of Residential Support Workers to provide trauma informed and culturally safe care to children and young people based on the Hope and Healing Framework.
- Work closely with the Program Coordinator on the day to day running of the house.
- Lead a team of direct care team members in providing quality trauma informed care aligned to the Hope and Healing Framework to children placed with the service.
- Be mindful of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child rearing practices and how that translates to quality care of children in the cultural context.
- Lead the team in the creation and fostering of a warm, structured, secure environment and maintain an accepting and supportive relationship with family and community contacts of each young person.

About You
- Hold or in process of completing a Degree in Community Services or other relevant field; or hold or in process of completing a Certificate IV in Child Youth & Family Intervention or other recognised qualification as outlined in the Strengthening the Queensland Residential Care Workforce – Minimum Qualification Standards Information Sheet.
- Hope and Healing Foundations Framework certificate.
- Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training would be well regarded.
- Demonstrated skills and experience working within a trauma informed framework.
- Experience in mentoring of employees and demonstrated skill and experience in caring for and raising children.
Other Requirements
- Eligibility for a positive Working with Children Check in the applicable state of employment in Australia or exemption based on professional qualifications and registration.
- Suitability Check to be engaged in the provision of care services by licensed out-of-home care service providers under the Child Protection Act 1999 and Child Protection Regulation
- Current driver’s licence.
- Current Senior First Aid certificate or the ability to acquire one.
