At Newcastle Wheels Meals on Wheels, we are a dedicated team committed to providing nutritious meals to elderly people in our local communities for over 60 years with nutritional nourishment and a network of supporting volunteers. At the heart of our organisation is a mission to work in our local communities with ageing Australians, supporting them to live independently in their homes where they want to be.

About the role

As a member of the food services team, you will be responsible for adhering to our food safety standards, supporting the day-to-day operations of the plating room, working in the freezer and delivering meals to our branches.

The physically demanding role involves food preparation, cooking, lifting, carrying and moving large quantities of food between kitchen, cool rooms and trucks.

About you

You’ll be physically fit (you’ll be on your feet most of the day!), be able to work in cool spaces and have -

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Previous experience in a similar role is a plus but not required.

Permanent employees have the additional benefit of salary sacrificing arrangements. This allows for employees to sacrifice up to $15,900 (set by the ATO, as an additional tax-free portion) in approved household expenses (e.g. rent, mortgage, utilities, meals).

No weekends or nights, the current schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (with opportunities to flex up on an ad hoc basis)

Experience:

Production Kitchen: 2 years (Preferred)

Licence/Certification:

Driver Licence (Required)

Food Safety Supervisors Certificate (Preferred)

To be successful in the role, you will have high attention to detail, exceptional organisational skills and will thrive with a diverse role in a small but cohesive team.

Along with a current Driver’s License, you will be expected to complete a National Police Check, Food Safety Certificate and NDIS Worker Check (NDISWC).
