Herrenknecht Australia, a subsidiary of the global organisation, operates with a small, dedicated team offering site support to active local tunnelling projects before, during and after TBM excavation. In-house engineering capabilities allow us to work with tunnelling contractors to find solutions to unique and challenging problems related to tunnel construction.
THE ROLE
The Field Service Technician is responsible for providing on-site technical support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services for Herrenknecht brands, including Raise Bore Rigs, HDD Rigs, Multi-Service Vehicles (MSVs), and associated systems. This role ensures that equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime, supporting customers in achieving optimal productivity and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Travel to customer sites across Australia and overseas to perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of Herrenknecht equipment.
Conduct scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs as required by our customers to ensure equipment operates efficiently and meets safety standards.
Conduct commissioning for new and existing equipment deployed into the field.
Work closely with mining teams to provide technical support and offer solutions to mechanical and electrical issues.
Ensure accurate documentation of work performed, parts used, and time spent on-site, including the completion of service reports.
Troubleshoot both mechanical and electrical faults, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
Maintain a high level of communication with site management and the central service team in Germany to provide updates on equipment status and any significant issues.
Provide product improvement recommendations to central service and product team for future consideration and implementation.
Provide training and advice to on-site operators and maintenance staff to ensure proper equipment usage and preventive maintenance practices.
Follow all safety procedures and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
Adhere to all regulatory standards and environmental guidelines during service activities.
Skills and Qualifications:
3+ years’ experience as a field service technician, preferably in the mining, tunneling, or heavy industrial equipment sectors.
Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in mining equipment. PLC experience advantageous.
Hands-on experience with diagnostic tools, including software and hardware for mining equipment troubleshooting.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, hydraulic and electrical schematics.
A strong problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently in remote and high-pressure environments.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
A valid Australian driver’s license and the ability to travel frequently.
Strong time management and organizational skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Trade qualifications in Mechanical, Electrical, or similar field (preferred but not mandatory).
