Join Our Team at EON Aboriginal Foundation

EON Aboriginal Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation established in 2005, delivers the EON Thriving Communities Program, which focusses on improving nutrition through gardening and nutrition education as a basis for chronic disease prevention across Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Working at EON offers a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting impact on peoples lives. Our team is inspired by our vision of making a lasting contribution in remote Aboriginal communities.

Job Opportunity:

Project Manager – Katherine Region

EON Aboriginal Foundation is seeking applications for the position of Project Manager to support the delivery of our community projects in the Katherine and Big Rivers Region. With new communities joining the program, this role will be part of our expanding team working across multiple locations in the region.

This role involves working closely with Aboriginal communities and schools in Katherine and the Big Rivers Region, delivering practical gardening, cooking, and nutrition education. A key part of the job is engaging with school-aged children—teaching hands-on lessons, making learning about healthy eating and gardening fun while building their skills in growing and preparing healthy food. Strong communication and the ability to connect with kids in a school setting are essential.

If you are proactive, self-motivated, and have experience working independently – especially in remote communities – we want to hear from you.

Position Overview:

As a Project Manager, you will play a key role in delivering EON’s Thriving Communities Program. This includes establishing and maintaining edible gardens and providing hands-on lessons to children and community members. The goal is to support schools and communities in developing sustainable food sources and lifelong skills in gardening and nutrition.

This role is based in the Big Rivers Region, Northern Territory, with regular travel between Katherine and remote communities. The position may be based in Katherine or in a community within the region.

Key Details:

Full-time (76 hours per fortnight), occasional out-of-hours work for stakeholder engagement events.

Fixed-term contract until December 2026, with a possibility of extension

$88,848.32 p.a. plus superannuation, with salary packaging options up to $18,549 p.a. tax-free

6 weeks annual leave

Fully maintained work vehicle provided.

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about gardening, cooking and community engagement. Ideal applicants will have existing gardening knowledge or a willingness to learn sustainable practices, and a passion for healthy cooking and sharing practical skills with others.

Key skills and attributes include:

Gardening and cooking expertise: Ability to establish and maintain edible gardens, teach sustainable gardening practices and share cooking skills.

Cultural Sensitivity and Adaptability: Experience engaging respectfully with Aboriginal communities, with a deep understanding of cultural diversity.

Engaging and Teaching Children: Ability to connect with school-aged children, deliver engaging and practical lessons, and create a positive learning environment that makes gardening, cooking, and nutrition education accessible and enjoyable.

Problem-Solving and Flexibility: Strong ability to adapt to challenges and develop creative, practical solutions.

Community Engagement: Excellent interpersonal skills to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with local communities, with the ability to communicate with people of all ages, from children to adults.

Independent and Proactive: Confidence in managing projects independently, particularly in remote and dynamic settings.

How to Apply:

Send your resume and a cover letter to [email protected] by 28 September 2025. The successful applicant must hold or obtain a current manual driver's license, Working with Children Check, and National Police Check.

Applications close:

Applications close at 6pm ACST on 28 September 2025. Shortlisting may commence prior to the closing date.

EON Aboriginal Foundation is committed to increasing the representation of Aboriginal people in our workforce. We strongly encourage First Nations People of Australia to apply, as at least 40% of our employees identify as Aboriginal.
