SPG are the independent manager of one of Australia's leading retailers, The Spotlight Group of Companies, incorporating iconic and trusted brands Spotlight, Anaconda, Harris Scarfe and Mountain Design.
SPG's property division, which was initially formed to facilitate new stores, has grown to Institutional status, Australia-wide and in New Zealand. Due to ongoing success, a leadership position has been created for a Portfolio Manager based in their South Melbourne headquarters.
The Position
As the Portfolio Manager, you will have personal responsibility for the management of the company's flagship South Melbourne asset (which includes the company's support group) and lead a small, dedicated team responsible for the management of the company's Victorian and Tasmanian portfolio.
You will work closely with the Head of Asset Management in a pivotal leadership role, shaping the strategic direction, operational delivery and financial performance of the entire group's property portfolio, Australia-wide.
The Asset Management team are a vital link in the group's chain, which also include repairs, maintenance, compliance support (for both the property and retail), plus planning and development for the delivery of its new projects and developments. Except for interstate Asset Managers, all resources are located at their South Melbourne HQ.
Key functions of the role include:
- Develop and execute asset plans and strategies
- Tenant and lease management
- Financial management and asset valuations
- Leadership and development of the property/asset team
- Stakeholder engagement, influence and management
- Compliance and risk management
- Provide strategic contribution through acquisitions, divestments, redevelopment, and capital works projects
About you
We are seeking an experienced property leader who is aligned with the group's philosophy, which is clear from top to bottom. It's a 'hands-on' retail and customer-focused, striving for continual improvement and value their relationships with fellow retailers, many of which are tenants in their portfolio and forthcoming developments.
To be successful in this role, we require the following:
- 7-10+ years' experience in commercial property asset management, with a preference for large-format retail.
- Experience leading a team.
- Demonstrated success in maximising portfolio performance, financial and leasing outcomes.
- In-depth knowledge of leasing, valuations, compliance, and property law.
- Strong commercial acumen, analytical, and financial management experience.
- Tertiary qualifications in Property, Real Estate, Finance, or related discipline (preferred).
- Proficiency in property management systems, preferably Yardi, and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
- Motivated to work in a collaborative environment, promoting a positive office culture.
