Are you passionate about fire management and conservation? Noosa Council is seeking a Senior Fire Management Officer to lead our bushland fire management program, protecting our unique environment, assets and community. This is your chance to combine technical expertise with leadership in a role that makes a real difference.
The Opportunity
In this senior leadership position, you’ll take responsibility for the design, delivery and evolution of Council’s fire management program. Working closely with Council teams, Traditional Owners, external agencies and the community, you’ll:
Lead the delivery of the Bushland Reserve Fire Management Plan and fire mitigation program.
Manage and implement complex fire management operations, including planned burns and emergency response.
Support cultural fire practices through collaboration with Traditional Owners.
Represent Noosa Council in regional and state-level planning forums.
Provide expert advice on fire management to internal and external stakeholders.
Lead and mentor a high-performing team, ensuring safety, collaboration and excellence in service delivery.
About You
You’re an experienced fire management professional with:
Significant expertise in bushland fire management strategy, conservation and natural area ecology.
Proven success leading complex fire management projects and high-performing teams.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills across all levels.
Applied knowledge of fire operations, safety legislation and best practice management.
The ability to perform under pressure during bushfire and disaster response activations.
Qualifications required:
Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or equivalent.
Complex Planned Burn Supervisor qualifications (PUAFIR515 & PUAFIR506).
Manual Driver’s Licence - “C” class and 4WD training/experience.
Highly regarded:
Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (firefighting) or equivalent.
White Card and additional relevant licences.
