About the role
This is a full-time Ranger Coordinator role with the Wirrawandi Aboriginal Corporation (WAC) in Karratha, Western Australia. You will be responsible for coordinating and leading a team of dedicated park rangers to maintain and protect the natural environment within the local area. This is a crucial role that contributes to the overall objectives of the organisation in preserving the rich cultural and ecological heritage of the region.
What you'll be doing
- Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the ranger team, ensuring efficient and effective park management
- Lead ranger patrols and monitoring activities to identify and address any issues or threats to the environment
- Develop and implement conservation strategies and programs to protect native flora and fauna
- Liaise with local authorities, community groups and other stakeholders to collaborate on environmental initiatives
- Maintain detailed records and provide regular reporting on the status of the parks and wildlife
- Participate in the planning and delivery of community engagement activities to promote environmental awareness
- Provide training, guidance and mentorship to the ranger team to build their skills and capabilities
What we're looking for
- Several years' experience in a similar ranger or conservation management role
- Strong knowledge of local flora, fauna and ecosystems, as well as relevant environmental legislation and regulations
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities to build partnerships and collaborate effectively
- Proficient in data collection, analysis and reporting to track and measure environmental outcomes
- Relevant qualifications in environmental science, natural resource management or a related discipline
- A passion for protecting the natural environment and a commitment to making a positive impact
