Cancer Prevention Officer
Cancer Council Tasmania
Posted 5 days ago
Cancer Council Tasmania is Tasmania’s leading cancer charity working hard to reduce the incidence and impact of all cancers for all Tasmanians. More than 11 Tasmanians a day are receiving a cancer diagnosis, and through our advocacy and research grants, our free transport2 treatment and supportive care services, to our cancer prevention education resources and programs – we are here for all Tasmanians.
Do you have a passion for public health and love engaging in your community? Are you self-motivated and confident speaking in front of a group? Our cancer prevention team is now looking for a dynamic team member to deliver our cancer prevention programs within the community on a part-time 0.4 FTE, fixed-term basis (parental leave coverage).
The Cancer Prevention Officer will be responsible for:
Delivering informative and engaging cancer prevention education sessions in community settings
Attending community events to connect individuals with cancer prevention information and resources
Supporting program evaluation through data collection and feedback gathering
Providing administration, IT and logistical support for prevention activities
You’ll be bringing together your experience in community engagement and your understanding of health promotion project planning, delivery and evaluation. You will be confident delivering information via formal face-to-face presentations through to more informal community events. You will therefore need to be happy and confident in this front-facing community role. Heading out to engagements means you will also need to hold a valid driver’s license and a WWVP Card (or the ability to obtain one).
We are looking for someone with tertiary qualifications in health promotion, health science or a similar field (or near completion of degree) OR equivalent community engagement experience with a demonstrated ability to deliver presentations and/or education sessions to varied audiences. You will need to be tech savvy, organised and proactive in ensuring the messaging is right for our audiences, but you’ll have the support of an experienced and passionate state-wide team to help you succeed.
