The Warren Region is home to the well-known D’Entrecasteaux and Walpole Nornalup national parks as well as the recently created Walpole Wilderness area and Walpole Nornalup Inlets Marine Park. Many other parks and reserves as well as significant areas of State forest make up the majority of the land that we manage. The landscape of the region include a diversity of coastal heath, tall karri forests to open jarrah and wandoo woodlands to the remnant Tingle forest. The region has wetlands of international and national significance, pristine estuaries and wild rivers.
Our key service deliverables are nature conservation, parks and visitor services, sustainable forest management, and fire management.
We currently have an opportunity for a Fire Operations Officer to join our Donnelly District team.
Under the direction of the District Fire Coordinator, this position:
- Assists in the planning, organisation and implementation of works programs and operations relating to fire management.
- Undertakes an active role in departmental prescribed burning and bushfire suppression operations.
- Participates in the preparation and delivery of allocated works programs to agreed standards and timeframes.
- Monitors and reports on operations.
- Liaises with community, key stakeholders and community groups in a positive and informed manner.

Selection Criteria
- Knowledge of and experience in the management of fire related activities for biodiversity conservation and community asset protection purposes including bushfire suppression, incident management principles and practices and the planning and implementation of prescribed burning programs.
- Experience in liaising with external organisations, including local authorities, private companies, other government agencies, stakeholders (including indigenous) and community interest groups.
- Knowledge and skills in leading and managing teams, including implementing works programs, scheduling work, setting and reviewing goals and controlling and reviewing progress, with a preference for experience in managing volunteers and contractors.
- Good oral and written communication skills, including report writing as well as demonstrated experience in GIS, and electronic data management preferably related to fire management.
