The Role - Senior Legal Counsel
Our client, a well-regarded membership-based organisation, is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to deliver practical employment and workplace relations advice to its members. This full-time, permanent role is critical in providing accessible legal guidance, advocacy, and representation while working closely with the HR Advisory team and senior leadership. You will contribute to submissions, policies, and industry advocacy, while also building trusted relationships with members through direct support.

Key Responsibilities

Member Advice & Support
• Provide timely, practical employment and workplace relations advice by phone and email
• Coach members on handling employee relations issues effectively
• Collaborate with HR Advisors to ensure consistent, accurate advice

Advocacy & Representation
• Represent members in hearings, conciliations, and mediations before the Fair Work Commission and other relevant bodies
• Draft submissions, policies, and resources on employment and industrial relations issues
• Support advocacy initiatives influencing workplace law and compliance

Knowledge & Communication
• Write articles and updates on employment law topics
• Present at member forums and contribute to industry events
• Ensure members are informed of legislative and regulatory changes

What We’re Looking For
• 6+ years’ post-admission experience in employment/industrial relations law
• A current practising certificate (or ability to obtain)
• Strong courtroom and appearance experience, with confidence representing members
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to translate complex legal advice into plain language
• A collaborative, approachable, and hands-on professional
• Comfortable engaging with members directly, including by phone
