Why work for the ACO

Our vision is to achieve world leading eye health outcomes for all.

We aim to be a global leader in primary public health eye care, providing best practice and holistic care to patients in need. We will achieve this through clinical excellence, translational clinical and public health research, education, and collaboration. Patient-centred models will underpin everything we do.

The ACO is currently undergoing a substantial period of change, supporting our strategic goals of aligning the research, clinical practice, and educational work we do. Our new strategic plan is focussed on creating OneACO; a patient centred, collaborative culture that embraces equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout.

About the role

Reporting to the Support Services Manager, this role is key to ensuring our healthcare facility operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to patient care. You will carry out a variety of general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep tasks across our site—helping to create a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

  • Respond to maintenance requests promptly, minimising disruption to patient care.
  • Inspect and report maintenance needs or hazards across clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Contribute to safety checks, scheduled maintenance programs, and emergency response.
  • Assist with procurement, consumables, equipment, and fleet vehicle maintenance when required.
  • Act as a point of contact in the absence of the Support Services Manager or Building Support Officer.

About you

  • Skilled in general maintenance and repairs across multiple trades.
  • Highly responsive, with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Safety-conscious and committed to adhering to OH&S standards.
  • A team player who can liaise effectively with staff, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Organised, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Essential

  • Proven experience in general maintenance or handy person roles across a range of trades.
  • Ability to assess and complete a variety of minor repairs efficiently and safely.
  • Strong awareness of OH&S, building regulations and infection control practices in a healthcare or similar setting.
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting, bending, and working safely at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Current driver's licence

Desired

  • Experience working in a healthcare, aged care, or similar high-sensitivity environment.
  • Trade qualification or relevant certification (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical).
  • Familiarity with building management or asset tracking systems.

This position may require some travel and out of hours work.

We will be reviewing candidates during this time and reserve the right to close applications sooner if suitable candidate is found. We encourage prospective candidates to apply as soon as possible.
