About us
Durri Aboriginal Corporation Medical Service (ACMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Primary Health Service. For over 40 years, Durri ACMS has provided essential and culturally appropriate health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people located in Kempsey, Nambucca Heads, and surrounding communities.
Our primary health service site in Kempsey is located on the traditional lands of the Dunghutti people, extending from the eastern extremity of the Mid North Coast to the Northern Tablelands.
Our Nambucca clinic sits in the homeland of the Gumbaynggirr people, with the Nambucca Valley being the southern gateway to subtropical Australia.
Durri services range across a number of both clinical and non-clinical services. From primary health care, chronic disease, dental, women’s health, perinatal to postnatal services as well as programs ranging from social emotional wellbeing services being built within an all-encompassing health setting means a comprehensive health approach can be undertaken.
Durri ACMS acknowledges the impact of past trauma, dispossession, separation of families, child removal, ongoing social disadvantage, racism and other historical, political, social and cultural issues that impact on the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and their communities.
About the role
This position is responsible for assisting Durri ACMS to support its communities of interest to achieve the best possible health and wellbeing outcomes through targeted health promotion initiatives. The key objectives include:
To work in a collaborative manner within Durri ACMS and external mainstream cancer services and organisations and with the wider community to create awareness and deliver health promotion education and activities
Develop co-designed and locally relevant communication campaigns and health promotion materials
Build partnerships with mainstream cancer services and organisation to strengthen coordination pathways that are equitable and culturally appropriate.
Implement effective health promotion interventions and capacity building strategies for people impacted by cancer
Improve delivery and accessibility of mainstream cancer services and supports to community members impacted by cancer
Qualifications & Experience –
Essential
1. Relevant tertiary qualification in Health Promotion
2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of current Health promotion theory and evidence based practice
3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Health Promotion planning, implementation, evaluation and dissemination
4. Demonstrated ability to use research to support best practice
5. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in community development and ability to establish and maintain community, government and non-government partnerships In particular ability to develop rapport and trust with Aboriginal communities across the Organisation’s footprint
6. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
7. Demonstrated high level of organisational and team skills including ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously
8. Knowledge and understanding of cancer related health care issues and inequities of access to services
9. Must hold relevant security clearances including National Police Check and Working with Children clearance
10. Current valid Driver’s license, minimum of Class “C” or equivalent
Desirable:
1. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
2. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal health issues.
