ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Southern Women’s Group (SWG) Inc is a not-for-profit community service based on the South Coast of NSW. We are a feminist-based organisation, and our vision is to ensure that all women are safe, respected, empowered and supported to flourish.
SWG Inc provides auspice for the South Coast Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (SCWDVCAS) through NSW Legal Aid. It is the Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service for the Nowra, Milton, Eden, Bega, Moruya, Narooma and Batemans Bay Local Courts. Our highly skilled and professional staff provide trauma-informed, client centered and culturally safe support to clients.
We provide information, referrals, safety planning and advocacy to women and their children who are, or who have been, experiencing domestic and family violence. We also provide support at court when there has been an application for a Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders through the Local Courts.
We maintain offices in Nowra, Moruya and Bega; NSW South Coast offers an abundance of lifestyle opportunities for those seeking a rewarding and fulfilling career in a beautiful location.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The DFVS worker supports women experiencing domestic violence, referred to the service from police and other agencies. The DFVS worker's role is to provide information, referrals, assess risk and safety plan. The DFVS worker also provides support to victim/survivors through the court process when there has been an application for a Apprehended Domestic Violence Order. The primary work location is Moruya or Bega, but you may be required to work at other SCWDVCAS locations from time to time.

Selection Criteria
Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline (such as social work, community services).
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the dynamics, complexities, legal and social welfare consequences of domestic and family violence and an understanding of the related effects of DV trauma.
Demonstrated understanding of the criminal justice response to DFV including ADVO applications and criminal prosecutions and related legal matters.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding in providing quality advocacy to a diverse range of community members e.g. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQIA+ people, and also socio-economically disadvantaged groups.
Demonstrated ability to work flexibly, collaboratively and effectively with a multi-disciplinary team and with external stakeholders, including high level networking skills.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with key stakeholders in the local area.
Ability to deliver services in accordance with the WDVCAS Service Agreement, WDVCAP, Policies and Procedures Manual, and other relevant Standards and operational documents.
Excellent communication skills, in particular, high-level skills in negotiation, advocacy, conflict resolution and general interpersonal communication. Very good level of writing skills.
Proof of valid driver’s license, a Working with Children Check and willingness to obtain National Police Records Check.
