Job Description
The Little Sisters of the Poor, St Joseph's Home have a casual opportunity available for an experienced Catering Assistant within our (50 bed) Aged care facility in Northcote.
The Little Sisters of the Poor is a warm, compassionate and caring organisation. We have a unique history dating back to 1839, dedicated to the service of the financially disadvantaged elderly.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Catering Assistant to join our dedicated catering team who are passionate about providing a high standard of customer service to our residents. Preferred candidates will have experience working in a Commercial Kitchen, in Aged Care or Hospitals. Shifts available include 6.30am until 2pm, and 2pm until 7.30pm Monday to Friday. Weekend shifts may also be available.
Responsibilities
- Cooking and preparation, serving, presentation and delivery of food and beverages in accordance with the Food Safety Program (FSP), the Chef's instruction, individual residents' needs and preferences.
- Washing dishes and cleaning according to the Food Safety Program
- Assist with monitoring and recording requirements of the Food Safety Program eg recording temperatures, signing the cleaning schedule when cleaning is completed, documenting goods received.
- Contribute to menu planning to meet residents' needs and preferences.
- Participates in the risk management program and contributes to a clean, safe work environment to ensure health and safety of residents, staff, volunteers and visitors.
- Provide competent service in accordance with the documented policies and procedures, and legislative requirements relevant to the role.
Skills and Experience
Certificate II in Kitchen Operations or Certificate III in Hospitality
Current food safety or food handling certificate essential
Cooking experience in a commercial kitchen mandatory
Experience in an aged care facility highly regarded
Ability to work in a team environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to show empathy and understand the meaning of good customer service
