The Department of Families, Seniors and Disability Services, and Child Safety has an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander professional to facilitate and develop workforce programs for our department.

As part of the Central Recruitment Team, you will work alongside the team to attract, retain, and develop Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff members. You will be supported by an identified team leader as well as your wider team and manager to deliver exceptional programs that support our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff to succeed and increase our departments cultural capability.

It is a genuine occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

You will be responsible for facilitating the current state-wide workforce mentorship programs, bringing your own experience and culture to tailor these. You will also be able to bring your own exciting and dynamic ideas for further attraction and retention strategies as well as new program concepts.

The Senior Advisors key responsibilities are:

Managing a range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander related workforce projects;

Assist in shaping HR strategies and provide targeted HR advice relating to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce;

Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to build cultural capability within the department;

Building partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander internal stakeholders to support effective HR services;

Providing culturally relevant advice and answering complex questions in workforce programs;

Coordinate logistics of local and regional workshops; and

Prepare relevant reports and submissions on HR issues.

What You’ll Get:

As well as an attractive salary circa $118,064 to $126,071 plus 12.75% super, you will receive:

17.5% leave loading

What We’re Looking For:

It is a genuine occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. Proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage and demonstrated attributes aligned with the values, cultural knowledge, and lived experience are required for effectively engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. One of the referees should be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to the applicant’s background, knowledge, skills and experience as they relate to the cultural capabilities.

The successful applicant will have some experience facilitating workshops, and working in community with an understanding of issues and concerns in the sector. You will be able to create a safe space for program participants to be vulnerable about their experiences, encouraging robust discussions, and be accessible to participants outside of workshop days. You will be able to answer complex and sensitive questions relating to culture.

As we deliver our programs state-wide, you need to be willing to travel to regional hubs.

Tertiary qualifications are not required for this role, and while qualifications in HR or business may be helpful, we are much more interested in your experience.
