Position: Senior Ranger

Location: Mt Tabor Station

Employment Type: Full Time

This position is vital to the ongoing management of country, cultural heritage, and community values. You will be working closely with Traditional Owners, community members, and other stakeholders to deliver on-ground land and heritage management outcomes.

About the Role

The Senior Ranger provides leadership within the GTOL Ranger team, supporting the Ranger Coordinator in delivering land management, cultural heritage, and conservation activities across traditional country. This role guides and mentors team members, ensures work meets cultural, environmental, and safety standards, and assists with planning, monitoring, and stakeholder engagement. Strong practical skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to work independently in remote locations are essential.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead and supervise on-the-ground field activities, including weed eradication, fire management, pest control, fencing, and habitat restoration, ensuring tasks are completed safely and effectively.

· Support and mentor Trainee Rangers, providing guidance to develop practical skills, cultural awareness, and conservation knowledge.

· Assist the Ranger Coordinator in planning, coordinating, and implementing conservation, land management, and cultural heritage protection programs.

· Ensure compliance with Work Health & Safety (WHS), environmental, and cultural heritage regulations during field operations.

· Maintain accurate records, prepare reports on operational activities, and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting processes.

· Coordinate schedules, resources, and equipment for efficient program delivery in collaboration with the Ranger Coordinator.

· Participate in field operations in remote or challenging environments, including extended periods or work outside standard hours.

· Contribute to communication and relationship-building with Traditional Owners, communities, and partner organisations.

Essential Qualifications/Requirements

· Relevant tertiary qualifications or training in environmental science, conservation, land management, or related field.

· Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a ranger team or similar field-based role.

· Knowledge of cultural heritage management and engagement with Traditional Owner communities.

· Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and field safety practices.

· Current manual driver’s licence and ability to work in remote locations.

Desirable Qualifications/Requirements

· Demonstrated experience in land management, conservation, or natural and cultural resource management.

· Experience in mentoring or training staff in practical skills and professional development.

· First aid certification and/or other relevant WHS training.

· Familiarity with report writing, program planning, and budget management.

· 4WD or other specialized vehicle operation certifications.
