Position: Trainee Ranger

This position is vital to the ongoing management of country, cultural heritage, and community values. You will be working closely with Traditional Owners, community members, and other stakeholders to deliver on-ground land and heritage management outcomes.

About the Role We are seeking a motivated Trainee Ranger to join our team and gain hands-on experience in land, wildlife, and cultural heritage management. This position provides structured training and mentoring to develop your career in conservation and natural resource management.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist with on-the-ground field activities, including weed eradication, fire management, pest control, fencing, and habitat restoration, under the guidance of Senior Rangers.
· Support the preservation and protection of cultural heritage sites by following established protocols and guidance.
· Learn and apply safe and effective techniques for conservation, land management, and field operations.
· Participate in training and mentoring to develop practical skills, cultural awareness, and environmental knowledge.
· Maintain records of activities, report progress, and raise any issues or safety concerns to supervising Senior Rangers or the Ranger Coordinator.
· Contribute to program delivery by assisting with preparation, setup, and completion of field tasks.
· Work in remote or challenging environments, including extended periods or outside standard hours, as part of the ranger team.
· Support team communication and collaboration, building positive relationships with colleagues, Traditional Owners, and partner organisations

Essential Qualifications/Experience
· Willingness to undertake training and complete qualifications relevant to the Trainee Ranger role.
· Genuine interest in conservation, land management, or environmental work.
· Ability to work outdoors in remote or isolated conditions, including long hours when required.
· Ability to follow instructions, work within a team, and complete tasks under supervision.
· Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and personal responsibility.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience
· Previous experience in outdoor, environmental, or conservation work.
· Basic knowledge of Indigenous cultural heritage and environmental protection principles.
· Basic first aid certificate or willingness to obtain
· Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and natural resource management practices.
· Strong teamwork and communication skills.
· Volunteer or work experience in national parks, wildlife reserves, or similar conservation areas.
· Experience with operating machinery, tools, or vehicles in outdoor settings.
