The successful candidate will require strong attention to detail, strategic thinking, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Ranger role within the Southeast Queensland Region of Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service and Partnerships (QPWS&P), within the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation, is a strategic and conservation-focused position.

We are seeking applications from suitable candidates passionate about estate management initiatives that support the sustainable governance of Queensland's parks and forests. The role reports to the Senior Ranger Estate Management to provide updates on estate and tenure management, including permit administration, development assessments, and Native Title processes. You will break down legislative and policy requirements, such as those under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Forestry Act 1959, to support informed decision-making.

The role prepares detailed correspondence, including ministerial briefings, and assists in strategic planning for tenure matters like revocations, acquisitions, and trusteeships. You will also monitor regional activities to ensure compliance with legislative and policy frameworks, identifying opportunities for improved conservation outcomes.

The role uses departmental systems, and communication portals to coordinate stakeholder engagement, record-keeping, and reporting within tight timeframes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, is essential to streamline data management, draft reports, and present information to diverse stakeholders, including Traditional Owners, government departments, and community groups.

About You

We're looking for individuals passionate about conservation and sustainable land management. Your planning skills will be key in managing competing priorities, while your ability to work independently and collaboratively will drive outcomes in a dynamic environment.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with Traditional Owners, stakeholders, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly acquire, legislative frameworks like the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Forestry Act 1959.
  • High-level writing skills for drafting correspondence, briefings, and reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, for data management and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address complex estate and tenure issues.

What's in it for you?

  • Join a supportive, high-performing team with a positive culture and inspiring leadership.
  • Enjoy fantastic flexibility, benefits, work-life balance, and significant development opportunities!

You'll experience so much here. For most of us, it starts with our wonderful people and the rich, diverse perspectives they bring. They're dedicated, passionate, and curious professionals. We're all different, and those differences are what make us great. We encourage you to find out more about this role by contacting the contact officer.
