Serviceman / Yard Assistant – (with Hire Counter Progression Pathway)

Are you hands-on, mechanically minded, and looking to build a long-term career in equipment hire? Active Hire is currently seeking a Serviceman / Assistant Manager to join our South Side team — with the goal of developing into a Branch Manager once you’ve built a strong working knowledge of our equipment and operations.

We’re looking for someone who is practical, driven, and eager to learn, with a genuine interest in machinery and customer service.

The ideal candidate will have:

Mechanical aptitude and experience with small engines

A current C class driver’s licence

A forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one promptly)

A background in customer service

Experience in hire, trade, or a fast-paced service industry (advantageous)

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Assisting customers in the yard (including loading/unloading via forklift)

Checking equipment in and out, including paperwork and condition reports

Cleaning, basic servicing, and preparing equipment for hire

Occasional equipment deliveries and pickups (minimal)

Supporting phone enquiries during peak periods

Running equipment hire operations

Relief work at other branches as needed

Over time, and with the right attitude and capability, this role will evolve into supporting and eventually running the hire counter, and potentially into a Branch Manager— quoting, booking, coordinating hires, and providing expert advice to our customers, driving business growth and acting upon all opportunities.
