Position Summary

The Head of Engineering is responsible for leading the engineering function, setting technical direction, and ensuring delivery of high-quality, scalable software solutions. This includes defining and executing the organisation’s AI strategy, embedding machine learning, automation, and data-driven decisioning into products and processes. The role bridges the gap between technical execution and business strategy, fostering collaboration between Developers, Business Analysts, and Product Managers to deliver customer-focused, innovative outcomes.

Leadership & Strategy

Define and communicate the engineering and AI vision in alignment with company objectives.

Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of full-stack developers and AI/automation specialists.

Establish engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes, including responsible AI principles.

Partner with Product Management and Business Analysts to ensure technical delivery balances business value with innovation opportunities.

Delivery & Execution

Own end-to-end delivery across multiple initiatives, including AI-driven projects.

Maintain speed of delivery through agile methodologies, CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices.

Integrate AI/ML models into core platforms, ensuring responsible usage and measurable business impact.

Oversee prioritisation, resource allocation, and delivery timelines, balancing technical feasibility and business needs.

Technical Oversight

Provide architectural guidance and hands-on leadership for full-stack systems and AI integrations.

Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, and AI platforms/tools (e.g., cloud AI services, ML frameworks).

Ensure system scalability, security, compliance, and ethical AI adoption.

Monitor and manage technical debt, striking a balance between innovation and maintainability.

People & Culture

Mentor developers, fostering professional growth and cross-skilling.

Build a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative engineering culture.

Partner with HR/Leadership to attract and retain top technical and AI talent.

Skills & Experience

Essential

Proven experience leading engineering teams in a Head of Engineering, Engineering Manager, or equivalent role.

Strong technical background in full-stack development (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, vue.js, Go, PHP, React, cloud platforms).

Hands-on experience with AI/ML strategy, implementation, or integration (e.g., natural language processing, predictive analytics, recommendation systems, generative AI).

Experience managing cross-functional delivery with BAs and PMs.

Expertise in Agile/Scrum

Strong communication and influencing skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable

Experience scaling engineering and AI teams in a high-growth environment.

Familiarity with MLOps, data pipelines, and AI model lifecycle management.

Knowledge of responsible AI practices, data security, and compliance frameworks.

Exposure to enterprise SaaS, automation, and digital transformation projects.

Expertise in CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native architectures.
