Hours of work: Approximately 4 hour shifts 3-4 days a week (5 days will be considered for the right applicant)

About the Role

Our Patch to Plate program at Fernbrook School is a lunch service offered to our students and staff members each day. It is a wonderful initiative that provides enriching socialisation opportunities, nutrition education and fosters our strong sense of community. We currently cook a vegetarian meal for a community of 80 per day. We also cater for Vegan and Gluten Free diets.

The ideal candidate will:

have knowledge and experience as a cook/chef

have the skills to consistently prepare quality meals that are desired by the community

hold a current food handling certificate

have knowledge of and experience in Child Safety in schools

hold a valid employee Working with Children's Check

transition into the existing Patch to Plate program

create termly menus

maintain strict food handling and safety requirements

implement up to date food allergy and anaphylaxis information for our community

liaise with our Veggie Patch expert so our produce can be used in the kitchen

possess the expertise and drive to manage the program long term and recommend improvements in line with the school’s growth.

Fernbrook School is an Independent Primary and Secondary School (P-10) located on a picturesque campus in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges. Fernbrook School came to be because a small group of passionate people held a common belief. We observed from experience that the ways children learn are many and varied. Children need to move, play and explore. They need to feel a connection; to people, to place and to what they are learning.

We found that these things are not being considered or provided for in many current educational models and settings. Our mission is to create a dynamic, creative, engaging learning place for all children. A place where they can feel connected and valued.
