About the role
We’re looking for a communications professional to help bring Engineers Australia’s voice to life through traditional media. In this role, you’ll manage reactive media enquiries, deliver proactive media content, and work alongside our Social Media Specialist to ensure stories reach the right audiences. You’ll also contribute to speech writing, media reporting and optimisation, and play a key part in issues management with our senior leaders when required. As part of the team, you’ll join the on-call media roster, support monitoring and reporting, and have the opportunity to shape impactful stories that strengthen EA’s reputation and advocacy for the profession.

Flexible with a preference for Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra
In this role you will:
Media Engagement – Respond to reactive media enquiries, deliver proactive content, manage interviews, brief spokespeople, and develop collateral such as media releases, communication plans, and key messages.
Speechwriting – Draft speeches for EA’s Speakers Bureau in alignment with media content and policy priorities.
Social media – Create and post content that supports media activity, while providing backup to the Social Media Specialist when needed.
Issues & Crisis Management – Support the Head of Media & External Communications in managing issues and crises as they arise.
Reporting & Analysis – Use EA’s media monitoring platform to deliver daily news updates, provide tailored reports, track emerging issues, and share insights with stakeholders.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
Media Relations Expertise – Experience in a front-line media role with a track record of generating positive coverage that supports business and advocacy objectives.
Advocacy & Political Awareness – Strong understanding of the role of traditional and social media in advocacy, as well as knowledge of political processes, government, and peak bodies.
Exceptional Writing Skills – Ability to craft compelling media releases, opinion pieces, communication plans, speeches, and briefing materials, often distilling complex policy or technical information.
Relationship Building – Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, pitch stories effectively, and create engaging social media content to complement traditional media.
Insights & Continuous Improvement – Familiarity with media monitoring, analytics, and emerging trends to identify issues early, provide actionable insights, and continuously improve communication outcomes.
