The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
The Birthing and Early Childhood Well-being Services Teams operate within the Family Services Unit and are focussed on the journey of families from preconception, through pregnancy and birthing care, into the period covering infancy and early childhood services. These services include the highly successful Birthing in Our Community (BiOC) pregnancy and birthing care service, the Australian Nurse Family Partnership Program providing intensive home support for first time mums / parents and their infants to the end of the second year; and preventive child health and development support services.
About the Role?
The purpose of the position is to manage the development of high quality, responsive and effective maternity and early childhood well-being services throughout the SEQ region. The position will lead the development of expanded service provision throughout the region and ensure the quality, review and ongoing development of existing programs and services.
The scope of the position includes business planning, leadership and health program quality assurance and continuous quality improvement.
Day to Day Duties Include:
- Manage and lead the ANFPP and BiOC teams to provide quality, high value services to parents / carers, infants and children from preconception through to early childhood, in accordance with identified needs
- Provide policy, advocacy and service support to improve pregnancy, birthing, parenting and early childhood health and well-being outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
- Lead a compassionate and professional team that provides the highest standard of client care
- Lead the ongoing development, rollout and implementation of a regional plan for pregnancy, birthing and early childhood well-being services in South East Queensland
- Oversee continuous refinement and improvement of established BiOC services in SEQ
- Identify and build on opportunities to improve communication systems between agencies to enhance and integrate the services and supports available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families through pregnancy, birthing and into the early childhood period
- Ensure delivery of birthing and early childhood well-being services is underpinned by a clinical governance framework that fosters reflective practice, constructive feedback and service improvement, risk prevention and management, and the highest standards in quality and safety of client care
About You?
- Extensive experience working in community-based birthing, early childhood and / or family health services
- Demonstrated team management experience
- Ability to systematically identify opportunities for improvement in work systems and implement changes in collaboration with colleagues
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Current Criminal History Check
- Current Blue Card
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificates
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
