As an Underground Backfill Engineer you will be a key technical contributor & will be responsible for optimising and managing paste backfill systems to support safe and efficient underground mining operations.

About the role:

• Driving improvements in paste backfill performance through optimisation of rheology, reticulation, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and backfill strength design—while proactively identifying and mitigating associated risks.
• Leading and contributing to projects focused on expanding and enhancing paste backfill infrastructure, including the design and implementation of barricades to support continuous pouring where applicable.
• Maintaining and executing QA/QC programs in alignment with the site’s Backfill Management Plan.
• Reviewing and updating paste backfill standards and procedures as needed to ensure consistency and best practice across operations.
• Providing expert guidance on cemented paste backfill strength design aligned to mining methods and stope sequencing, while integrating geotechnical and backfill considerations into mine design, planning, and scheduling.
• Collaborating with mining and processing teams to troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges, ensuring optimal paste composition, rheology, and effective system flushing to prevent blockages.
• Identifying and evaluating emerging technologies and innovations to continuously improve paste backfill systems and practices.

About you:

• Hold a Bachelors Degree in Geotechnics, Mining Engineering, Civil/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• At least 5 years experience as a backfill engineer, including in operational roles.
• Experience in Project/Cost/Contractor Management.
• Knowledge of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
• Valid C Class manual drivers licence.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical to include drug and alcohol screening.
