Nestled along the banks of the Murrumbidgee River is the welcoming town of Hay. It is a vibrant agricultural hub in the western Riverina. Hay is well serviced with a choice of 2 primary schools and a high school. Sport and cultural activities are pivotal to the social setting of the town, with a wide range of opportunities to participate in community activities.
Position Summary:
The Operations Manager will work closely with the Feedlot General Manager to oversee daily operations of the feedyard, ensuring the health and performance of the livestock, coordinating with various teams, and helping manage personnel, feed programs, and overall productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in day-to-day feedlot operations, including feeding, livestock management, and pen maintenance
Supervise and train feedlot staff to ensure safe and efficient work practices
Monitor cattle health and work with veterinary staff on diagnosis and treatment protocols
Support feed and ration management in coordination with the nutritionist
Maintain accurate records on animal inventory, treatments, and feed delivery
Ensure compliance with animal welfare and environmental regulations
Help develop and implement strategies to optimize cattle performance and feed efficiency
Serve as acting manager in the absence of the Feedlot General Manager
Qualifications:
Prior experience in feedlot operations or cattle management required
Strong understanding of animal health, nutrition, and welfare
Leadership and team management skills
Ability to handle pressure
Proficiency with record-keeping and feedlot management software is an asset
Degree or diploma in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field preferred, but not required
