Shape Council Governance with Impact

The City is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Governance Officer to oversee statutory meeting processes and deliver governance support functions in alignment with legislative frameworks, Council policies and organisational procedures. This pivotal role ensures the integrity of Council and Committee operations and contributes to a culture of collaboration and accountability that drives strategic outcomes and continuous improvement across the organisation.

About the Role

As the Senior Governance Officer, you will manage the efficient and professional delivery of formal Council and Committee meetings. You will ensure compliance with statutory obligations and play a key role in strengthening the City’s governance framework through policy coordination, election support and stakeholder engagement.

You will provide leadership within the Governance team, fostering a positive work environment that supports performance, development and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and coordinate formal Council and Committee meetings, including agenda preparation, minute taking and document publication.

Attend meetings to take and produce Minutes of formal meetings including recording of voting outcomes.

Approve the finalisation of meeting documentation, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, standing orders, Council policies, and procedures.

Provide leadership and coaching to team members, promoting a collaborative and accountable work environment.

Lead governance support functions such as policy reviews, annual reporting and elected member induction program.

Maintain strong relationships with internal departments, elected members and community stakeholders.

Promote continuous improvement in governance systems, documentation and practices.

About You

You are a detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of governance principles and local government legislation. You thrive in structured, deadline-driven environments and bring a proactive, collaborative approach to leadership and stakeholder engagement.

Demonstrated experience in governance or statutory environments, within federal, state or local government or corporate governance environment.

Sound knowledge of the Local Government Act and associated regulations.

Proven ability to manage meeting processes and produce accurate documentation.

Experience in leading a team and driving performance.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

High digital literacy and experience with governance and records management systems.

Diploma of Local Government or equivalent relevant qualifications or demonstrated experience.
