We have an opportunity to join our team as a Youth Development Officer, on a full time, fixed term basis.
About the role
In this role, you will play an important role in supporting the development of young people in our community. You'll work with young people to identify their needs and interests and develop impactful programs and initiatives that meet these needs and that align with the City’s Learning City Strategy and Strategic Community Plan, as well as provide support in the implementation of the National Principles for Childsafe Organisations. You'll also work with other stakeholders, such as schools, local businesses, and community organisations to create a supportive environment for young people across the City of Canning to thrive.
A snapshot of your new role:
Researching and identifying youth needs, priorities, and trends
Developing, facilitating, and evaluating youth development programs that align with the City’s Learning City Strategy and Strategic Community Plan
Developing and implementing strategies that promote youth civic engagement, social connection, learning, and leadership
Developing and supporting partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
Support the Coordinator Youth Services with the implementation of National Principles for Childsafe Organisations
Mentoring young people and facilitating access to resources, information and opportunities that help them achieve their goals
Supporting the facilitation of the Youth Consultant Network
Support the Coordinator Youth Services in reviewing and developing policies and practices which improves the efficiency of service provision
How you will thrive in this role:
A qualification in Youth or Community Development, combined with proven experience in a youth or community development role
Demonstrated experience working with young people from diverse and complex backgrounds
Ability to research, evaluate and develop strategies and solutions that target youth engagement and development
Strong organisational skills and ability to contribute to and manage multiple youth projects on the go
Experience engaging service providers and developing partnerships with stakeholders
Knowledge of best practice youth development principles
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to foster genuine, positive relationships
Ability to work autonomously and independently, while also working within the wider team
Availability to attend larger youth events to support the team, such as Youth Fest
Current ‘C’ class driver’s license with reliable vehicle in order to attend various work sites
Current WA Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance (within six months validity)
