The City of Canning Youth Services team is expanding, and we’re seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Activity Officers to join our team.
About the role
As a Youth Activity Officer, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of young people in our community. Starting each day at Lynwood Youth Hub, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering engaging and meaningful programs at the Lynwood, Cannington and Willetton Youth Centres, fostering a safe and supportive environment for youth, including those facing challenges such as: mental health, stress, relationships, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), and career readiness.
A snapshot of your new role:
Build strong, professional relationships with young people, encouraging their participation in a variety of recreational, educational, and personal development activities.
Support “at-risk” youth by providing information, referrals, and advocacy, ensuring they receive the help they need to thrive.
Collaborate with a dedicated team to develop and implement programs that address current social issues and promote positive youth engagement.
Deliver activities to youth in our community, including attending schools for engagements, and participate in school holiday programs, as well as day to day programs.
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring our youth services are effective, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the community, as well as new initiatives and principles, such as child safeguarding.
Complete administrative and planning tasks, such as planning and organising supplies for programming (including shopping); timely reporting of incidents and disclosures including My OSH reporting; maintain current records of attendance, membership, shift notes, engagement and significant change by young people at Youth Centres and other programs as required; support the Youth social media accounts and digital direction with content curation and scheduling duties.
What we’re looking for:
Minimum of Cert IV in Youth Work, or equivalent
Minimum 2 years’ experience in youth work, ideally delivering youth programs
Exposure to mental health, alcohol and other drugs
Ability to build relationships with all people from diverse backgrounds and levels
Basic level of experience in programming, including planning, budgeting, delivery and reporting
Understanding of reporting and responding in critical situations
Understanding of national principles of child safeguarding
Collaborative team player with a passion for making a difference, contributing to positive change, and creating impact within the team and community
Commitment to open and respectful communication with our youth, team and other stakeholders
Any additional skills or special interests you may have to share, such as sport, musical instruments
Availability until 6pm to deliver activities
Flexibility to cover extra shifts where required
Satisfactory Working with Children’s Card (or ability to obtain)
A current Western Australian ‘C’ class driver’s licence
A reliable vehicle for business use
Current Satisfactory National Police Clearance
