Gander Automotive is a proud Repco Authorised Service Centre located in Frankston, known for our honest advice and high-quality workmanship. Our workshop offers a full range of mechanical services from logbook servicing and diagnostics to roadworthy inspections and major repairs.

In just over 12 months, we've built a strong local reputation, and as one of team members gets ready to move on to travel around Australia, we're looking for the right person to step into a long-term role within our growing workshop.

About the Role

We're looking for a qualified Motor Mechanic or 4th Year Apprentice to join our team in a full-time role.

Core responsibilities include:

Logbook servicing, including brakes, cooling systems, suspension, transmission and driveline repairs

General servicing and mechanical repairs on all passenger and 4WD vehicles

Scan tool use and fault diagnosis

Vehicle safety checks and pre-purchase inspections

Assisting with roadworthy certificates (if qualified)

Updating job cards and service records with accurate details of work completed and parts used

Communicating clearly with team members and occasionally with customers

Completing tasks in a timely, efficient manner without compromising on quality

What you'll be working on:

You'll work on a wide variety of vehicles, from modern daily drivers to older classics and everything in between. On any given day you might be servicing a Suzuki Swift, diagnosing a fault on a 4WD, or repairing a campervan, hot rod or Chevy ute. While we're not currently equipped for fully electric vehicles, we do see the occasional hybrid vehicle.

The variety of vehicles keeps things interesting, with a constant flow of passenger and light commercial vehicles coming through the workshop.

About You

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys being part of a small team, and has a strong eye for detail. You’ll need to be reliable, self-motivated, and confident working independently, but also happy to lend a hand when needed.

The skills and experience you'll need:

A Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or currently a 4th Year Apprentice)

Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills, including confident use of scan tools

A manual driver’s licence (essential)

The ability to work efficiently without cutting corners

Good communication skills and a friendly, professional attitude

Experience and confidence working on a wide range of makes and models

An air conditioning licence (preferred but not essential)

Tyrefitting and wheel alignment skills (preferred but not essential)

You'll be working in a clean, well-equipped workshop with modern tools and diagnostic equipment, alongside a supportive, tight-knit team. This is a full-time, Monday to Friday role — no weekends required.
